heart work.

i'm struck by how often during a shoot, a client/friend opens up to me and shares something that makes us both teary. life is brutal & beautiful. creating beautiful portraits can be a way to avoid seeing the dark spaces in our lives, but what i want instead is to find the contrast to that darkness. my hope is that beautiful portrait work will shine a light in that space by reminding us of the moments and people who bring us joy.

this shoot is no exception to that rule. this sweet family shares in some difficult circumstances that would bring us all to our knees. that's their story to tell.

the part of their story that i want to share is below through these moments we captured together.

when i arrived to their family shoot, i was quickly brought into their laughter and i found an openness that was beautiful to watch. i'm hopeful that laughter and openness are just a few of the beautiful things they'll see when they look back on these moments they shared.

doug, neeley, and dillon, i feel honored to spend time with you capturing your family's love story.
